Hoffman Skanska LLC Launches Fundraiser to Benefit USO Northwest as USO Celebrates its 80th Year
Hoffman Skanska LLC will launch a fundraising campaign to support USO Northwest, an operating location of the United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO), and its center at Portland International Airport (PDX) on Saturday, May 15.
“We wanted to host the fundraiser this month because May is Military Appreciation Month,” says Caitlin Powell, project manager for Hoffman Skanska LLC. “We are kicking off this campaign on May 15th - Armed Forces Day, and we will wrap up on June 14th - Flag Day. This is a great opportunity to help support the mission of the USO and their direct support of active duty military service members wherever they are.”
“Here in Portland, we’re proud to be part of the USO’s legacy of serving America’s armed forces,” said Jeff Keller, USO Northwest center manager at PDX. “Because of our amazing partnership with Hoffman Skanska LLC and their commitment to USO Northwest, we’re assured we’ll still be able to serve our nation’s service members and their families in any way they need.”
The USO Northwest center at PDX began operations in 2014. On March 1, 2021, the center was relocated to a new, temporary space located on the first floor near the baggage claim area. This short-term relocation is a result of the $1.3 billion airport renovation that began in 2018. The USO Center at PDX will remain in this temporary location until renovations are complete and will then move into newly rebuilt facilities.
“So many of us have connections to the military including family that have served for our freedom. The purpose behind the USO is amazing and the story behind their organization coming to and thriving at PDX is the same,” said Powell.
Funds raised during this campaign will support USO Northwest programs and services to the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families. Each year, USO Northwest provides direct service to around 800,000 service members and their families stationed in or traveling through the Pacific Northwest. USO Northwest continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, developing new programs and services to support those who need it most, including morale-boosting and family-strengthening programs, deployment and redeployment support to help servicemen and women adjusting to the duty ahead, resiliency training for families facing multiple deployments, as well as discreet and compassionate escorts and other support for families of the fallen.
In 2021, the USO is celebrating 80 years of strengthening America’s military service members by connecting them to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
