About this Location
Our USO Shali Center is strategically located adjacent to the Troop Holding building and the Passenger Air Terminal on McChord Field at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. USO-Northwest staff and volunteers work closely with base operations in order to provide assistance with troop deployments, homecomings, and care package distribution. Our Shali Center provides troops sequestered in the troop holding area access to the center’s lounge, a full-service canteen, computers and the Internet, free WI-FI access, big screen TVs and Xbox gaming area. In addition, the USO Shali Center hosts free monthly “No Dough” Dinners offering free hot meals before pay day to military personnel and their families. Our USO Shali Center serves more than 50,000 deploying troops annually.
Who Can Use the USO?
Occasionally, veterans or military retirees contact us to tell us they couldn’t get into a USO airport center because they are not active-duty military. As much as we’d like to open our doors to all those who have honorably served, we have limited space and financial resources.
Please reference the USO Worldwide Admissions Policy
Interested in Volunteering at the USO?
Volunteers are the heart and soul of the USO Shali Center, one of the busiest on-installation Centers in the USA. If you would like to help keep our doors open and say thank you to our military and their families, then become a USO volunteer!
Please fill out the Online Volunteer Application. After the initial screening process you may be asked to come in for an interview and orientation. We will then schedule you for training and get you acclimated to our amazing team.

After getting delayed and rerouted and delayed and rerouted, I ended up at Sea-Tac at 0030 with my next flight at 0700. I found the USO and it was a blessing. Your volunteers are exceptional, always making sure we're taken care of. For example, a group of us passed out on the couches. A volunteer went around and tucked us all in with blankets. After a day that made me want to cry, I am so appreciative of what you do for us. Being able to wash my face and brush my teeth made my day bearable!Anna C. Find out how to support USO
