Mobile Outreach program spreads cheer among JBLM families
Military life can be very challenging for service members and their families. Moving from one base to another is difficult, both physically and emotionally. Having to say goodbye to friends and then having to make new ones can often lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness. Our USO Northwest Mobile program understands these challenges and continually tries to develop new ways to reach out in creative ways by supporting families right where they live.
One recent example was during April’s “Month of the Military Child”. Our 32 foot “Camo” Winnebago van cruised McChord Field neighborhoods stopping along the way at the area’s parks and playgrounds. One of our volunteers served as the Easter Bunny handing out Easter candy and crafts and posing for pictures. The event was another way to support the families living in the JBLM housing area.
The Northwest Mobile program has made similar trips through McChord’s housing area handing out candy canes at Christmas and ice cream in Summer. Our USO volunteers continue to find new and fun ways to serve and support our military members and their families.
