Shali Center volunteer is dedicated to the Mission

“Dedicated to the mission” would best describe McChord Field’s USO Shali Center volunteer Larry Schloer. Larry and his wife, Kaycie, have been a USO volunteers for over seventeen years. Faithfully serving airmen, soldiers, and military retirees week after week, Larry loves to cook. Shali guests eagerly look forward to what he might be serving that always reminds them of home. He is also the one who you will see in the kitchen preparing our holiday and other special meals.

Our Shali Center is not only open to provide snacks, beverages, and a tasty meal throughout the week, it is also a place to relax and spend time with friends and be greeted by USO volunteers, like Larry. A Boeing retiree, Larry is a perfect example of a caring, friendly, and welcoming USO volunteer. He offers our guests the comfort of a homemade meal.

Ask Larry how he’s doing - he will always answer “not bad for an old guy” which always makes our guests laugh. We are thankful for him and the many who are like him who dedicate a big portion of their lives in support of our service members and their families.
